Longtime Angelenos Thomas and Gloria Lang have been attending LA Phil performances for many years and are steadfast donors, subscribers, and Clark Society members. In addition to their love of music, they share a love of travel. They have explored the world and can confirm that there is no place they enjoy more than Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Hollywood Bowl.

When it was time to retire and Tom and Gloria considered relocating, it was their love of the LA Phil that kept them in LA: “We wouldn’t go anywhere that we couldn’t take the LA Phil with us.” They retired over 15 years ago and continue to happily integrate classical music performances into their everyday lives.

Over the years, they’ve generously donated to the LA Phil. When it was time to take a Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) from their IRA, they discovered the ease of donating through a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD). Their investment adviser makes the process effortless. Instead of donating by mailing a personal check, “All we have to do is connect with our broker or financial advisor, and they take care of the donation for us.” QCDs are a great way to make a tax-free gift to satisfy one’s RMD and make an immediate impact on a nonprofit organization such as the LA Phil.

In addition to their annual giving, the Langs have been celebrated members of the LA Phil’s Clark Society since 2015. The Clark Society, named after the LA Phil’s founder, consists of supporters who have included the LA Phil in their plans. Their gifts ensure that the LA Phil will continue its work, both onstage and in the community, for generations to come.

Tom and Gloria included the LA Phil in their legacy because “We want to contribute to the longevity of the Phil and its music programs because it’s something that we treasure dearly.” Since joining the Clark Society, they’ve enjoyed witnessing its growth and the friendships that have blossomed through the various gatherings held each year.
