The LA Phil, which has redefined what an orchestra can be, is as vibrant as Los Angeles, one of the world’s most diverse and dynamic cities. Led by Music & Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel, this internationally renowned orchestra harnesses the transformative power of live music to build community, foster intellectual and artistic growth, and nurture the creative spirit.
In 1919, philanthropist William Andrews Clark, Jr., created the Los Angeles Philharmonic—an orchestra he dreamed would grow into one of the world’s great musical ensembles. A century later, the LA Phil has realized Clark’s vision—and so much more.
Under the vibrant leadership of Music & Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel, the LA Phil offers live performances, media initiatives, and learning programs that inspire and strengthen communities in Los Angeles and beyond. The Los Angeles Philharmonic orchestra is the beating heart of the LA Phil’s musical offerings, which also include multi-genre presentations by local and world-renowned artists and youth development programs such as YOLA (Youth Orchestra Los Angeles).
Performances are offered on three historic stages—Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Hollywood Bowl, and The Ford—as well as through a variety of media platforms. In all its endeavors, the LA Phil seeks to enrich the lives of individuals and communities through musical, artistic, and learning experiences that resonate in our world today.
YOLA—Gustavo Dudamel’s signature program and a major component of how the LA Phil delivers its mission as a community resource—provides young people, ages five through 18, with free instruments, intensive music instruction, and opportunities to perform on stage in their communities and around the world.
