The Hollywood Bowl is more than a concert venue – it is a living tradition passed down across generations of Southern Californians. Siblings Elizabeth, Jennifer, Adam, and Steven Hirsh grew up attending the Hollywood Bowl alongside their parents, Anita and Stanley.

“It was truly important to my parents that they would be able to stop everything and have this beautiful evening with incredible music outdoors,” Elizabeth recalled. “When we were able to go as children, I remember thinking that this place was awesome. You were sitting in a box, and everybody knew everyone. There was this whole community of people from all over the city who would come on Tuesdays, and people would stop at each other’s boxes and share food and wine.”

When their mother, Anita, passed away last year, the Hirsh siblings chose to make a significant philanthropic gift to the Hollywood Bowl from her trust. For the next five summers, the Hirsh family’s legacy gift will support a Hollywood Bowl concert, chosen by the family and the LA Phil, in honor of their mother. “We are very fortunate that we can do this and keep my parents’ dream and my parents’ legacy alive through giving.”

Her sister, Jennifer, concurred. “I think it would mean a great deal to my mom that we love the Bowl as much as we do.”

Anita and Stanley, who held a Tuesday classical subscription for decades, were themselves generous philanthropic partners to the LA Phil. “My siblings and I first learned philanthropy by watching our parents. They believed in the arts and the importance of the arts in society and specifically arts education,” Elizabeth said. “They wanted to make sure that through their donations, young people could come to rehearsals, or classes, so a lot of the giving was geared toward making sure that concerts were available for young people.”

The LA Phil is deeply grateful to the Hirsh family, who recognize the Hollywood Bowl as “part of their family’s DNA.” Their choice to make a legacy gift to the LA Phil will help open that possibility to new generations from all across Southern California.
