Claudia Choi and Ben Adrian: Steering Support Towards the Future of Music

Claudia Choi and Ben Adrian, devoted members of the William Andrews Clark Society, have woven their appreciation for the arts into the fabric of their lives, particularly through their support of LA Phil as donors, subscribers, and friends.

Residents of Echo Park, Claudia and Ben regularly commute by bicycle to attend performances, an activity that combines their love for music with their enjoyment of Los Angeles’ urban landscape.

Music has been central to Ben’s life since he was 14, when he first picked up a guitar—just two weeks after meeting Claudia. This period marked the beginning of his enduring passion for music, enhanced by his education in a school with a strong music program.

“Music has the power to transform lives, just as it transformed mine,” Ben said. “Supporting the LA Phil means investing in a future where everyone can have that experience.”

In recognition of their shared love of music, Claudia later gifted Ben with season tickets to the LA Phil, establishing a tradition of attendance that continues to this day. The couple meticulously plans their travels to ensure they rarely miss a concert, underscoring their commitment to the music they cherish.

When planning their estate, Claudia and Ben made a thoughtful decision to prioritize the LA Phil as a primary beneficiary of their trust. Their decision was influenced by the organization’s commitment to educational programs that benefit young musicians (like 14-year-old Ben) and our dedication to commissioning new musical works each year—guiding the way forward for orchestral music in the 21st century.

In addition to their own enjoyment, Claudia and Ben actively introduce friends and family to the LA Phil and Hollywood Bowl, though they do not require them to travel by bicycle! Through sharing their story, Claudia and Ben aim to inspire other donors to invest in the future of music today, by making a gift through their estate, will, or trust—

“Our passion for music and belief in its educational power drives us to ensure others can enjoy the same inspiring experiences we’ve had. It’s why we’ve chosen to support the LA Phil as donors—it’s our way of giving back to the art form that has given us so much joy.”
