Growing up in Los Angeles, Stan Kamin’s early memories were intertwined with the vibrant rhythms and melodies of the LA Phil, echoing from the iconic Hollywood Bowl. “I remember going with my parents to the Bowl,” Stan recalls, "when we would sit in the dollar seats way up in the nosebleed section.”

These experiences weren’t just fleeting moments; they formed the foundation of a lifelong love affair with classical music. Later in life, his connections with the LA Phil would deepen. Stan mentions, “Once, I was in a box with my eldest son, and the performer was Itzhak Perlman. We were sharing the box with Itzhak’s parents!"

But Stan's connection to the LA Phil extends beyond being an avid attendee. Recently, he made a legacy gift, a decision influenced by a provision of the CARES Act 2.0. “This donation is a win-win,” Stan enthusiastically explains. “Because of the new rule, you can make a onetime Qualified Charitable Distribution of up to $50,000 to a Charitable Gift Annuity or Charitable Remainder Trust. Instead of paying taxes on your minimum distribution, you donate the full amount and get a lifetime distribution in return. It benefits both the donor and the LA Phil.”

Stan is proud to be among the first few to make such a generous gift to the LA Phil through this method. His gesture of giving back is a testament to his love for music and the LA Phil. “It's such an individual choice, to make a gift, but working with the LA Phil Gift Planning team has been a breeze. Everyone’s more than willing to help out."

Through his stories and generosity, Stan Kamin serves as an inspiration, demonstrating how one can turn one’s love of music into a legacy that lasts forever. Contact us at legacy@laphil.org or 213 972 3458 to learn more about creating a Charitable Gift Annuity in support of the LA Phil.
