Naming a payable-on-death (POD) or transfer-on-death (TOD) beneficiary on your bank account or certificate of deposit allows funds in such an account to pass to one or more charities or individuals upon your passing. This can be as simple as contacting your bank and completing a beneficiary designation form.
Your POD or TOD beneficiaries are not co-owners of your accounts and have no right of access to these accounts during your lifetime. Therefore, you have full use and access to the account funds during your life, and your beneficiaries may be changed at any time. Not only is this option flexible, but it also avoids probate, making it a very attractive giving option.
