Creating a will is an essential part of securing your legacy and your family’s future. A gift by will, otherwise known as a bequest, can be any shape and any size. What matters is that your gift fits you and your unique family and financial circumstances. Over the years, bequests have provided the LA Phil with invaluable support in our continued mission to redefine what an orchestra can be.
Any Shape
With a charitable bequest, you can specify an amount of money or a certain percentage of your estate and leave it to your executor to make the arrangements. Or you can leave a specific piece of property, such as a stamp collection or a piece of real estate. If you prefer, you can specify that your gift to the LA Phil be made only after all of your other bequests are paid. Or, if you are uncertain, you can even make your bequest gifts contingent on certain events occurring (or not occurring).
Any Size
Sometimes people think bequest gifts have to be very large or that they have to be rich to make one. Nothing could be further from the truth. The LA Phil has received bequest gifts of all sizes. Everything we achieve together onstage and in the community is made possible only through philanthropy. All gifts make a difference. What matters is that your legacy gift complements your plans for yourself and your loved ones.
If You Would Like to Remember the LA Phil in Your Will
Here is an example of bequest language that you can share with your attorney:
“I give to Los Angeles Philharmonic Association, 151 S. Grand Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90012, a California nonprofit corporation, or its successor, Federal Tax Identification Number 95-1696734, [insert here the percentage, dollar amount, or description of property] for its general purposes.”
